Club Events

Our club holds and participates in a number of competition and social events throughout the season. Such events are supported with the provision of accommodation and BBQ’s and if lucky you may well be presented with a trophy at our popular annual dinner. Some of our fantastic club supporters provide the opportunity to participate in monthly club fly tying nights, often the Tuesday prior to each club meeting. Club meetings regularly host special events and guest speakers. Industry and fellow members provide support to the club with fantastic information sessions, gear promotions and fly casting tuition. Our annual family Christmas gathering (with Santa!) and club dinner are popular events with fantastic auction items and draw prizes donated from our fantastic supporters.

Contact us if you wish to be involved or even if other clubs would like to host a new shared event with us. Dates and locations for our events care published in our current calendar.

Club Day – Arthurs
LakeTypically our first event of the club fly fishing calendar is our Arthurs Lake Club Day. The traditional emphasis of the event is to give the lesser ‘skilled’ or novice club members an opportunity to fish with, and learn from our more experienced and skilled anglers, many with national and international competition success. Culminating with a social get together and BBQ.

Bob Joblin Dry Fly Day – Little Pine Lagoon
This popular event pays homage to our dearly missed member and friend, Bob Joblin at his favourite water, Little Pine Lagoon. Held one mid summer morning, this event presents dry fly fishing by boat or by shoreline on one of Tasmania’s premier trout waters, with the winner receiving a prestigious place on the coveted award, the Bob Joblin Memorial Trophy.
Lake Burbury
Our annual Lake Burbury trip is a true battle off between the ‘top shack’ and ‘bottom shack’. This event sees members and boats alike, hitting the water at first light to target Lake Burbury’s ‘wind lane sippers’ and ‘shore line cruisers’. This week long event is a highlight to the VDFFC social calendar and very much anticipated by many a club member each year.
St Helens Competition
Our only salt water event of the season pitches Van Dieman Fly Fisher’s against Break ‘O’ Day and Quamby in a ‘battle of the species’. Whilst not strictly a fly only event, capture on the fly awards more points, and though a true competition hales this is great social gathering between those clubs involved. The VDFFFTC certainly appreciate their support in keeping this great event alive.
